Relationships

"Love rests on two pillars: surrender and autonomy. Our need for togetherness exists alongside our need for separateness." —Esther Perel

People seek relationships to gain acceptance, love, validation, and fulfillment. However, it's not uncommon for conflicts to emerge over time, even within the most resilient bonds. The therapeutic journey can nurture a relationship, holding the potential for partners to gain a profound understanding of their challenges and providing a path to grow closer once again.

Couples may find there is a growing emotional distance where love once thrived.  If trust has eroded, if communication has broken down with someone who used to be close, if a struggle brings ambivalence or confusion, or if there is a troubling pattern within the relationship, I'm here to be a guide. Therapy can help people gain clarity and find the best way forward. Whether that involves repairing and rekindling the relationship or navigating a path of separation, I'm committed to supporting the considered decision.

My approach involves dedicated listening to both partners, allowing me to comprehend each individual's perspective and uncover unmet needs. I delve into the dynamics at play within each person and their contribution to the conflicts. Recognizing one's role in relational challenges presents an avenue for transforming negative patterns and fosters more openness within the partnership.

I am LGBTQ+ affirming and work with many clients who define their relationship orientation, gender, or sexuality outside of historically traditional societal norms.

Couples often seek my guidance for a range of concerns, including but not limited to:

  • Premarital Counseling: Providing a foundation of understanding and healthy communication before entering into marriage.

  • Communication Challenges: Assisting couples in overcoming barriers and fostering effective dialogue.

  • Trust Issues: Addressing and rebuilding trust that may have been compromised.

  • Open or Polyamorous Relationships: Guiding primary partners through the complexities of nontraditional relationship dynamics.

  • Healing from Individual Trauma: Navigating how individual trauma histories can impact the partnership and finding ways to heal together.

  • Sexual Intimacy Difficulties: Offering support and strategies to enhance and strengthen the couple's sexual connection.

  • Parenthood Adjustments: Helping couples navigate the transformative journey of parenthood while maintaining a strong relationship.
